343 manual exchange offices approved by BCT since November 2018

The number of manual exchange offices, approved by the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT), has reached 343 since the granting of the first authorization from the issuing institution on November 2, 2018. "No authorizations were granted from the beginning of 2024 to January 28," the BCT posted on its portal. The first manual exchange office in Tunisia was set up in La Goulette on March 15, 2019, when the BCT issued an authorization on November 2, 2018. Over the last four years, manual exchange offices have provided foreign currency inflows of nearly 7 billion dinars, Deputy President of the Tunisian Association of Exchange Offices, Kamel Mgarech told TAP on May 15, 2023. «These offices will help increase financial supply to nearly 20 billion dinars over the next five years in cease they benefit from the new developments recorded with regard to modern payment mechanisms,» official added. The BCT ensures control of the progress of the activity of these exchange offices, which are required to transmit monthly, al l the operations carried out, through the information exchange system.
