Tunisia to have trial period to implement Starlink technology (ministry)

The Ministry of Communication Technologies and a US communication services company completed the review of the clauses of an agreement under which Tunisia would have a trial period to implement Starlink, a satellite-based high-speed internet service, in some parts of the country. The agreement also provides for carrying out necessary tests for the implementation of Starlink and developing a regulatory framework. This agreement was signed during a visit by Minister Nizar Ben Neji to a number of pioneer satellite communication services companies, including Starlink, Amazon Kuiper and Astranis, the ministry said on Monday. Ben Neji led a delegation on a visit to the US on July 24-28 during which he familiarised with satellite communication services and solutions and satellite models designed by these companies. The economic model adopted for the deployment of terminals to access high-speed transmission data services in underprivileged areas came under focus. The KU band will be used to supply safety equipment in line with security standards in each country, the ministry further said.
