World champion Ahmed Ayoub Hafnaoui was nominated for the 2023 World Aquatics swimmer of the year title along with French Léon Marchand and Chinese Qin Haiyang. The Tunisian swimmer snatched the 800m and 1500m freestyle world champion titles at the World Aquatics Championships in Japan (July 2023). He also won a silver medal at the 400m freestyle event.
