Tunisia celebrates the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which corresponds to December 3 of each year, under the sign "People with disabilities must contribute to decision-making, particularly at the local level. The Social Affairs Ministry underlined, in a statement that Tunisia has made great progress in establishing a legislative arsenal in accordance with the provisions of the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Second Arab Decade for Persons with Disabilities 2023-2032, adding that efforts continue to revise programmes and strategies related to the promotion and protection of persons with disabilities. Tunisia started the reform of the specialized education system by creating the International Center for the Promotion of Disabled People and is working to enforce the obligation to employ disabled workers in the public and private sectors, stressing that action continues to guarantee equal opportunities for people with disabilities, the same source said. The protection of disabled people is at the heart of social policy in Tunisia, the same source adds. The Constitution of July 25, 2022 requires the State to protect people with disabilities against any discrimination as well as take measures that guarantee their full integration into society.
