Run-off local elections: ISIE expects higher turnout than in 1st round

Spokesman for the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) Tlili Mnasri said that the ISIE expects voter turnout in the run-off local elections (held on Sunday) to be higher than in the first round, which had not exceeded 11.84%. "As soon as polling stations opened this morning, we recorded an improvement in voter turnout for this national event, notably among the over-50s," added Mnasri in a statement on the sidelines of the ISIE press briefing. He also pointed out that most of the constituencies involved in the run-off are in the interior regions of the country, such as Sidi Bouzid, Kasserine and Kairouan. "These constituencies registered a high turnout in the first round of the local elections, reaching 80% in some regions," he said. Mnasri further indicated that the number of voters eligible to turn out in the run-off local elections had fallen. It stood at 4,181,871 voters, compared with over 9 million voters in the first round. Source: Agence Tunis Afrique Presse
