Jendouba: Grain production estimated at 1 million 400 thousand quintals

JENDOUBA: The harvest season in the governorate of Jendouba was kicked off on Monday in Boussalem. The grain harvest is expected to reach more than 1 million 400 thousand quintals for a sown area of 84 ha, or an average yield of 17 quintals per hectare. Governor of Jendouba, Samir Kouka, told TAP that the harvest could have been better if farmers had received support in terms of cutting-edge technologies in grain farming. He added that relevant authorities are working to find the best solutions to rationalize the management of irrigation water, double cereal production and increase fire protection measures. President of the Regional Union of Agriculture, Lotfi Jammezi estimated that the yield per hectare in the region could reach up to 80 quintals as long as the relevant authorities ensure the supply and provision of the farmer with seeds, fertilizers and irrigation water in sufficient quantities. The grain harvest, for the current agricultural season, in the governorate of Jendouba is higher than that o f last year (400 thousand quintals) and lower than that of 2022 (more than 2 million quintals).
