Eleven Senior High Schools from Oti and Volta Region will gather at WoraWora SHS in the Biakoye District on August 30, to exhibit their innovation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The schools are Bueman Senior High, Dodi-Papase Senior High Tech, Tapaman Senior High Tech, Fr-Dogli Memorial Technical Institute, WoraWora Senior High, and Biakoye Comm-Senior High. The rest are Peki Senior High, Ola Girls Senior High, Avatime Senior High, Comboni Tech/Vocational Institute and Keta Senior High Tech. The programme, dubbed STEM-INNOVATION, is a competition focusing on the 21st century skills to solve National Challenges. The programme is being undertaken by the Ministry of Education through the Ghana Education Service with its donors including the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation, among others. Mr Daniel Aboagye, a STEM educator in the Oti Region told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the programme would help in promoting STEM Education. He said it was relevant to the students and the entire Ghanaian populace. Mr Aboagye in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, ahead of the programme explained that the project focused on three areas which included an urban garden, cheap electricity and clean water. He said that would help to reduce the pressure on the country's resources, especially energy, food and water. 'Ghana's population is growing fast and when you have a nation with a faster-growing population, there is much pressure on all resources in the country, energy, water and food,' he told the GNA and appealed to parents to support and encourage their wards who demonstrate a desire for STEM Education.
