Baccalaureate: Over 137,000 candidates sit their exams Wednesday

Some 137,906 students are taking the main baccalaureate exams starting today, Wednesday, with the results to be announced on June 25. The tests will take place on June 7, 8, 9, 12, 13 and 14 in 584 examination centres across the country, compared with 578 centres in 2022. According to figures provided by the Education Ministry at a press conference on Monday, the number of baccalaureate candidates in 2023 has risen by 2,941 compared with 2022. 82% of all candidates are enrolled in state schools, i.e. 11,2573 pupils, compared with 18,539 candidates in the private sector (13%) and 6,794 independent candidates (5%). 61% of candidates are girls (84,547) and 39% are boys (53,359). As for specific measures, 14 detained candidates are sitting the baccalaureate exam in prison, 471 will have extra time, 47 have their exam copies written in Braille, 91 have their copies enlarged, and 5 have their philosophy subjects translated into French for the science sections and their history and geography subjects for the economics and management section. Only one candidate will be allowed to use the tablet. The baccalaureate re-sit session will be held on July 03, 04, 05 and 06, and the final results will be announced on July 16.
