Beït al-Hikma to host Study days on ‘Food in Arab Heritage’ on January 4 and 5

The Tunisian Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts, «Beit al-Hikma» will hold a two-study day on the theme «Food in Arab Heritage: Sources, Methods and Approaches to the Texts". The event, which will take place on January 4 and 5, is held at the initiative of the Department of Human and Social Sciences of «Beït al-Hikma». It will kick off at 9 a.m. at the Academy in Carthage with the participation of experts in various fields including Tunisian and foreign academicians. Three sessions are scheduled during which speakers will address questions such as "Food in two History Books", "The Sources of the Medieval West", "Methodological Tools for the Study of Food in the Medieval Islamic World", "Anthology of Food: Claude-Lévi Strauss" and "the Taste Isotopia in Ancient Arab Rhetorical and Critical Discourse". Five roundtable discussions focusing on various religious and literary sources will also be held. They will address topics such as "Sources for the Study of Food in Ifriqiya", "Medicine Books", "Food Donat ions in Fatawa Al-Burzuli", "The Books of Hisba, Source for studying Food", "Cooking recipes in Arabic Sources: Studies of Procedural Discourse", "Food Discourses as Revealed in the Construction of Authority in the Medieval Islamic World" and "Religious Vegetarians in Islam".
