Candidates for upcoming presidential elections to submit candidacy July 29 to August 6

Tunis: Candidates for the presidential election scheduled for October 6, 2024, will be able to submit their candidacy documents starting Monday, July 29. The submission period will extend until August 6, according to a press release issued by the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE). Candidates or their authorised representatives must submit their documents in person at the headquarters of the ISIE in Tunis, between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM. Documents presented to the ISIE must be accompanied by a notarisation confirming the authenticity of the signatures, as validated by the relevant administrative authorities. To be eligible for the presidency, a candidate must be a Tunisian national, without dual citizenship, born to Tunisian parents, with Tunisian paternal and maternal grandparents uninterruptedly. The candidate must be Muslim and at least 40 years old on the date of candidacy submission. Candidates must possess all their civil and political rights and must not have served as President of the Rep ublic for two consecutive or non-consecutive terms. They must not be subject to any disqualification penalty resulting from a judicial decision or have lost their status as a voter. Regarding endorsements, each candidate must present support from either 10 members of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People (ARP) or the National Council of Regions and Districts (CNRD), 40 elected local officials, or 10,000 registered voters distributed across 10 constituencies, each with a minimum of 500 voters. The candidacy file must be submitted in duplicate and include the full name of the person submitting the documents, their position, the full name of the candidate, their date and place of birth, profession, religion, address, email, national identity card or passport number, phone number, and the contact details of both the candidate and their representative. The candidacy requirements also include a sworn declaration signed by the candidate, affirming that they meet all the necessary conditions, are not s ubject to any legal prohibitions, and that the information provided is accurate. If the candidate is not submitting the file in person, the sworn declaration must be notarised. For candidates representing political parties, the ISIE requires that the candidacy declaration bear the signature of the party's legal representative along with their contact details. The candidacy file must include a copy of the candidate's national identity card or passport, two recent photographs, a birth certificate, a certificate of nationality for the candidate's parents and grandparents, and a copy of the national identity card or passport of the financial agent and the candidate's legal representative. Additionally, the file must contain a recent criminal record extract (Bulletin No. 3) and a deposit receipt of ten thousand dinars made to the public treasury. The ISIE also requires that candidates provide a list of their endorsers in both paper and electronic formats, including the endorser's full name, position, electoral district, national identity card number and issuance date, and the name and surname of the endorser's mother.
