Tunis: Director General of the National Migration Observatory (French: ONM) Ahlem Hammami had a meeting on Monday morning with Director of the Regional Office of the International Center for the Development of Migration Policies for the region of Mediterranean (ICMPD) Julien Simon and Director of the Tunis Office Lamine Abed. The meeting was attended by in several ONM executives. This meeting made it possible to review the cooperation and partnership programmes between the ONM and the ICMPD in terms of migration, in particular the projects implemented within the framework of the ProGres-migration programme in its first phase with the theme «the governance of migration,» reads a press release published by the ONM. Among the projects carried out within the framework of "governance of the region" are the national census on international migration TUNISIA-HIMS, which was carried out in partnership with the National Institute of Statistics, the establishment of an IT system Migration Network, which is considered as a platform bringing together all data on migration and migrants that will contribute to strengthening migration data governance as well as provide accurate figures at the national, regional and international levels. Ahlem Hammami underlined the importance of the role of the ONM and its contribution to the governance of the migration issue in coordination with the various structures concerned, through studies, research and the use of data. Julien Simon welcomed the efforts made by the observatory, expressing the ICMPD's readiness to provide the necessary assistance to the ONM and its various partners in the area of migration through capacity building, exchange of expertise and good practices, capable of guaranteeing better governance for this issue.
