Defence committee of Abir Moussi expresses concern about dangers threatening her physical integrity

President of the Free Destourian Party (PDL) Abir Moussi could face real dangers that could jeopardise her physical integrity as she appears Tuesday before the judge, following a complaint filed against her by the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE),' said her defence lawyers. During a press conference held on Monday at the party's headquarters, Lawyer Karim Krifa explained that Abir Moussi's hearing is scheduled on the same day as the hearing of "terrorists accused in the case of the assassination of Chokri Belaid." He specified that in court "she will be put in the same cell as terrorists" and called on the authorities to respect and guarantee Abir Moussi's physical integrity. The defence has drawn the attention of the Ministries of Interior and Justice to this matter, he added. The subject of the complaint filed by the ISIE against the PDL president concerns a press conference staged by the party in December 2022, during which she expressed her position regarding the electoral process of De cember 2022. She had stated that the legislative elections of December 17, 2022, are "illegal, non-compliant with the law and international conventions, and in violation of the principle of gender parity.' Lawyer Krifa recalled that several political actors had also called to boycott elections without the ISIE deeming their positions as "electoral offenses." The PDL indicated last Friday that Abir Moussi would appear on February 13 before the judge at the Tunis Court of First Instance in connection with a complaint filed by the ISIE regarding "statements to the media." Moussi appeared on February 1 before the judge at the Tunis Court of First Instance following a complaint filed by the ISIE for insulting a public official and disclosing false information. On January 16 spokesperson for the Tunis Court of Appeal Habib Torkhani told TAP the Prosecutor at the Tunis Court of First Instance ordered the launch of three judicial investigations against the president of the PDL. These consist of two complaints f iled by the president of the ISIE and a third brought by the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT). On January 18, the trade union organisation decided to withdraw the complaint, according to its electronic newspaper "Echaab News," quoting deputy secretary-general of the UGTT Sami Tahri.
