FM holds working session with Chinese counterpart, discuss ways to strengthen partnership

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar, held a working meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, at the ministry's headquarters on Monday. The two ministers reviewed the historical and fruitful cooperation relations between the two countries and discussed ways to strengthen, diversify and raise them to the level of a mutually beneficial partnership, according to a press release from the ministry. Minister Ammar stressed the long-standing, strong and traditional relations between Tunisia and China, which have witnessed a remarkable development since the historic meeting between the presidents of the two countries in Riyadh in December 2022, especially as the two countries celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. He stressed the convergence of the two sides' views on issues of common interest and developments on the regional and international scene, including in particular the Palestinian cause. In this regard, the Minister reiterat ed Tunisia's firm and constant position on the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people. The Minister also expressed his appreciation for the Chinese government's continued support for Tunisia's development efforts through its contribution to the implementation of major development projects in priority sectors such as infrastructure, health, youth and sports. He reiterated Tunisia's determination to further consolidate the bonds of friendship and bilateral cooperation in various fields, including promising investment and partnership projects. He cited projects in the tourism sector, which would benefit both parties and contribute to a better balance in bilateral economic exchanges. For his part, the Chinese Foreign Minister praised the remarkable dynamism and constant development of Tunisian-Chinese relations, characterised by regular consultations and mutual support. He stressed his country's willingness to further strengthen this cooperation and its commitment to follow up on the results of the mee ting between the Presidents of the two countries. China's Wang Yi is paying a working visit to Tunisia from January 14 to 16, at the head of a high-level Chinese delegation comprising two vice-ministers of foreign affairs and trade, the vice-president of The China International Development Cooperation Agency and a number of senior Chinese officials. This visit coincides with the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on January 10, 1964. The Chinese Foreign Minister's programme includes a meeting with the President of the Republic, a working meeting with his Tunisian counterpart and participation in the inauguration of the International Diplomatic Academy of Tunis by the President of the Republic.
