Tunis: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar met on Tuesday at the ministry's headquarters with 2023 Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry, Moungi Bawendi, reiterating his congratulations to him and Tunisia's pride in this international honour at the highest level. During the meeting, the Minister stressed the importance Tunisia attaches to outstanding experts who contribute to its global image and strengthen its position at regional and international levels, in addition to their role in strengthening Tunisia's development efforts through their diverse expertise and network of relations. He also highlighted the Ministry's current efforts to establish effective partnership relations with these experts in order to serve Tunisia and all its citizens at home and abroad, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In this context, he highlighted the Ministry's willingness to organise a national forum for Tunisian experts abroad next summer, with the aim of bringing together a group of Tunisian experts abroad with various government officials in the sectors that will be addressed during this forum. This event will be an opportunity to strengthen the network between these talents, who come from different countries and sectors. As part of his programme on the first day of his visit to Tunisia, Bawendi gave a lecture at the International Diplomatic Academy in Tunis on his teaching and research career and the reasons why he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2023. The lecture was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and a number of senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Scientific Research and Education, as well as a number of ambassadors accredited to Tunisia. President Kais Saied, on Tuesday morning, decorated Moungi Bawendi, with the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Republic. In October 2023, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry to three US-based researchers working in the field of nanotechnology, including Tunisian Moungi Bawendi, who was born in Paris in 1961 and holds dual French and US citizenship.
