OIPEM calls for need to establish national day to combat violence

Tunis: The International Organization for the Protection of Children of the Mediterranean (OIPEM), Tuesday, called for the need to establish a national day to combat violence in Tunisia, stressing that this dangerous phenomenon has taken scale in educational establishments. It underlined the importance of establishing a national day to combat violence in society and within the family as well as implementing new legislation adapted to this phenomenon, the sanctions of which would be proportional to the seriousness of the offenses. «Alarming figures have been recorded concerning acts of violence committed during April, resulting in victims among students and teachers,» it added. The OIPEM specified that the family is responsible for the care and supervision of children and must assume its role of support and listening, recalling the results of a study carried out in March 2013 which revealed that 80% of parents do not communicate with their children on issues related to daily life.
