Over 600 young individuals benefit from “MéBt Initiative” in construction and related trades

More than 600 young people have benefited from the Tunisian-German project in construction and related trades, known as the "MéBt Initiative". The implementation of this initiative was launched in 2020 as part of the cooperation between the Bavarian Business Organisation (BBW), the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training and the Tunisian Federation of Construction and Public Works, with an estimated total German funding of 4 million dinars. During the closing session in Hammamet on Tuesday, Abdelkader Jammali, Chief of Staff to the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, told TAP that the implementation of the "MéBt" project is part of efforts to improve the employability of unemployed young people who have not completed their schooling and are outside the education and training system. The project provides them with a 6-month training programme, culminating in the award of specialised vocational training certificates. Jammali emphasised that such training has helped participants secure employment or start their own businesses. This project, which has been implemented in six construction training centres in Slimen, Ben Arous, Enfidha, Sidi Bouzid, Mahres and Gabès, has addressed the needs of the construction sector, which is considered one of the most important economic sectors in Tunisia in terms of skilled labour, Jammali explained. Graduates of the training programmes have benefited from new opportunities, particularly after registering with the design offices and the "Structure Your Project" programme, which facilitates access to financing from the Tunisian Solidarity Bank (BTS) for project launches, the same source added. Jammali also praised the close cooperation with the German side in the field of vocational training, with the implementation of several projects. For his part, Jamel Ksibi, President of the Tunisian Federation of Construction and Public Works, stressed the importance of this project, which targets unemployed youth, also known as "NEETs", estimated at nearly 1.2 million young people. It aims to provide them with training opportunities, skills development and support for integration into the labour market, he said. Laurine Ardjelan, BBW project coordinator for the "MéBt" project, said that this initiative, carried out in cooperation with Germany, has provided more than 600 young people with specialised training in the construction sector.
