Run-off local elections – El Hamma du Jerid: candidates focus on agricultural and health sectors

The run-off local elections in El Hamma du Jerid, Tozeur Governorate, will take place in three constituencies, namely El Hamma-1, Ennamlet-2 and Chakmou. The two candidates in the Chakmou locality Ibrahim Zahouani (109 votes, 44.13%) and Mohamed Taher Mahjoubi (78 votes, 31.58%), have presented their electoral programmes. They are primarily centred on stimulating development in the locality where the economic model is predominantly agricultural. Candidate Ibrahim Zahouani, a 46 year-old employee at the Ministry of Agriculture, commits to improving the services of the primary health centre in the region by establishing an emergency service and acquiring an ambulance. Regarding the agricultural sector, the candidate voiced determination to work towards streamlining credits to small farmers and livestock breeders in the locality. He also pledged to work towards establishing a post office in the region. Improving healthcare services also stands as a top priority for candidate Mohamed Taher Mahjoubi, a 41 jo b-seeker. He proposes equipping the Chakmou primary health centre with the necessary medical equipment and human resources. He is committed to encouraging youth to launch projects and increasing the region's quota in fodder, considering the dependence of a significant portion of the population on livestock activities. The candidate's programme also includes the refurbishment of the primary school through creating a sports arena and providing school transportation.
