SIPEN 2024: creation of Digital African Confederation announced

Tunis: The creation of the Digital African Confederation, AFRI'tech, was announced Monday by the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA). AFRI'tech will bring together professional organisations and associations representing the private sector in African countries. The move was formalised last June 28 on the sidelines of the 7th edition of the International Fair for Professionals of the Digital Economy (SIPEN) held June 27-28 in Dakar (Senegal). It is the fruit of a process put in motion more than two years ago with the signing of a MoU in Abidjan with a view to federating the various African employer organisations operating in the sector and fostering a long-term partnership among the communities of private digital sectors and innovative startups in Africa. This is a project launched in 2022 by Kais Sellami, the President of the Tunisian Digital Union under UTICA, President of the Organisation of Information and Communication Technologies Professionals in Senegal (OPTIC) Antoine NGOM, and Patrick Mbengue, the then president of the Information and Communication Technologies Operators Grouping in CĂ´te d'Ivoire (GOTIC CI). Afri'Tech will be headquartered in the seat of UTICA in Tunis. Antoine Ngom will be take the helm of the organisation and Kais Sellami is the first vice-president. It will act as a catalyst and play a unifying role of the private sector actors tolme in their efforts to defend interests and develop innovation and the digital industry in Africa.
