Tunisia and FAO sign cooperation agreement to improve social protection of agricultural workers

Tunisia on Monday signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) aimed at developing areas of intervention between the various sectoral policies with a view to improving the rate of social protection of workers in the agricultural sector in Tunisia. The agreement, signed during a ceremony at the headquarters of the Ministry of Social Affairs by Minister of Social Affairs, Malek Ezzahi, and Senior Policy Officer at the North Africa Regional Office of FAO, Mohamed Amrani, marks the start of the implementation of action programmes in the social security sector for agricultural and fisheries workers, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Social Affairs. It aims to strengthen Tunisia's institutional capacity to extend the coverage and improve the quality of social benefits for agricultural workers and fishermen. The Minister of Social Affairs stressed the importance of the role of small farmers and agricultural workers in the country's economic d ynamism and their ability to achieve food security if the appropriate conditions are met.
