Security forces and the National Guard, in the governorate of Sfax, have led joint campaigns to combat irregular migration caused by a heavy presence of migrants in the Bab Jebli area in Sfax-downtown. The security campaigns carried out in the city of Sfax and on the northern coasts of the delegations of Jebeniana and El Amra led to the confiscation of boats intended for irregular migration and a 1-million-dinar cash. These operations also led to the arrest of a large number of organisers and accomplices implicated in illegal crossings as well as transnational human trafficking, official spokesperson for the National Guard Houssemeddine Djebali told TAP. During these campaigns, security units thwarted, within 12 hours, 14 attempts to illegally cross the sea borders, the same source said, adding that the public garden located near Bab Jebli had turned into an area where irregular migration operations are planned. Djebali spoke of widespread violence between sub-Saharan Africans as well as «against Tunisian ci tizens and even security units.»
