National Defence Minister Imed Memmich stated that Tunisia is brimming with expertise in a number of military disciplines and considers South-South military cooperation to be of great importance, especially in military education.
These factors make Tunisian military training establishments attractive to African officers, which demonstrates the cooperation spirit between Tunisia and friendly African countries, he added.
Speaking on Friday at the closing ceremony of the African Air Chiefs Symposium, hosted in Tunis on October 2-6, 2023, the minister underlined the need to build the capacities of African armies and to adopt uniform training programmes so as to be able to address common threats.
The Defence Minister explained in this regard, that Tunisia had proposed an initiative to adopt a participative and joint approach between African military institutions. The aim is to provide training that meets international standards and agreed benchmarks.
Memmich pointed out that the project to acquire T-6 Texan training aircraft is geared towards building the capacity of the Tunisian air force to train Tunisian war pilots, and providing further support to African air forces.
Chief of Staff of the Congolese Air Force, Brigadier General Jean Baptiste Philippe Tchicaya said that this meeting on military training and instruction had provided an opportunity for the participating delegations to share their expertise in the field of military aviation.
"The exchanges were fruitful, given that our Tunisian brothers are very advanced in the field of military air training, which is a very exacting field," he pointed out.
With regard to the use of artificial intelligence in this field, the officer said that the African delegations had noticed that "Tunisian military schools are already well equipped compared with Western schools."
