The national strategy for the production of Indicators on violence against women from administrative records until 2023 spotlighted a total of 112 in a number of relevant agencies and ministries. The strategy was launched by the Centre for Research, Studies, Documentation and Information on Women (French:CREDIF), with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA-Tunisia). Speaking at a press conference held Monday at CREDIF headquarters, as part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, Minister of Family, Women, Children and the Elderly Amel Belhaj Moussa said these indicators break down as follows: 50 indicators at the Interior Ministry, 30 at the Defence Ministry, 14 at the Health Ministry, 10 at the Social Affairs Ministry and 8 at the Family, Women, Children and Elderly Ministry. The minister laid emphasis on the importance of these indicators in terms of the quality of the quantitative approach to statistics and the study of the phenomenon of violence against wom en in a scientific manner. They contribute to the development of data and help analyse this phenomenon and put national strategies in place. CREDIF Director General Thouraya Belkahia said indicators of violence against women based on administrative records had risen from 24 indicators in 2017 to 112 indicators in July 2023. This strategy was launched in 2015 based on an analytical approach and findings about the inadequacy of sector-based figures, she said. CREDIF organised training sessions for researchers to develop their knowledge about violence against women. Belkahia also said there is need to enforce Law No.58 on the elimination of violence against women, raise awareness among youth and support the efforts made by the ministry to fight gender-based violence. Director of UNFPA office in Tunis Rym Fayala highlighted the quality of the strategy's indicators which, she said, are based on scientific data and in line with the sustainable development goals. They are of capital importance in combating viole nce against women and girls. Source: Agence Tunis Afrique Presse
