Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Nabil Ammar met Saturday with First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Bakhromjon Aloyev, on the sidelines of his participation in the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Kampala, Uganda. The two ministers expressed willingness to strengthen ties of friendship and reviewed a number of practical proposals for strengthening cooperation in promising areas. In this regard, it was agreed to establish a mechanism for political consultations between the foreign affairs ministries of the two countries at a mutually agreed level. The Uzbek official also proposed to set up a joint economic commission tasked with encouraging trade and partnership and organising visits and meetings for businessmen and heads of enterprise in both countries. The two sides agreed to encourage cooperation and the exchange of experience and expertise in tourism, agriculture, education and culture and seize opportunities offered in both countries in these area s. Geographical distance, they stressed, should not hinder cooperation. Aloyev also extended an invitation to Ammar from his Uzbek counterpart to visit Tashkent in the coming period and underlined the importance of strengthening relations with Tunisia, considering its strategic role in the region. The meeting was an opportunity to exchange views on a number of regional and international issues as well as items on the summit agenda. Ammar and Aloyev placed emphasis on the convergence of views about the need to put an immediate end to the brutal aggression against Gaza. They expessed support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate struggle to restore their traditional and legitimate rights and establish their independent state on all their territories.
