Tunis: Tunisia topped the United States International Olive Oil Competition (USIOOC), Miami 2024, after winning 62 gold medals at the competition organised by the Global International Olive Oil Competitions (GIOOC), with the participation of more than 100 companies from 13 countries. Raouf Chouket, president of GIOOC (the leading international extra virgin olive oil competition), told TAP Tunisia's medals included 48 Gold Medals in the Quality Category, 9 Gold Medals in the Healthy Category, 5 gold medals for Infused Oils and two Silver Awards for Quality. Tunisian companies took part in the competition with around 200 samples of extra virgin olive oil in the presence of an international jury of 11 experts from Tunisia, Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Morocco and Jordan. Greece, Spain, Italy, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, Turkey, Jordan, Croatia, Oman, Algeria, Libya and Argentina also took part in the competition, along with Tunisia. For the fourth time in a row, Tunisia topped the international podium a t the European International Olive Oil Competition in Switzerland, the Scandinavian International Olive Oil Competition in Copenhagen and the Afro-Asian International Olive Oil Competition in Abu Dhabi. The governorate of Kairouan, second in the country in the irrigated olive sector after the governorate of Sidi Bouzid, has won more than 10 gold medals in these international competitions.
