Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar, said Wednesday that the committee in charge of monitoring the cases of embezzled funds is working on an action plan and a new effective approach to address the shortcomings that have hindered their return. Speaking at a plenary session dedicated to reviewing the ministry's budget, Nabil Ammar explained that this action plan aims to evaluate the measures taken so far and monitor judicial decisions and financial and legal aspects related to foreign parties. He added that the committee in charge of returning embezzled funds is meeting regularly and will submit its first report to the President of the Republic before the end of 2023. As a reminder, the committee is chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and includes the Ministers of Interior, Justice and Land, as well as the Governor of the Central Bank and the State Litigation Officer. The FM also confirmed that numerous meetings had been held with members of the Tunisian communit y abroad to listen to their concerns and encourage them to organise themselves into associations to make their voices heard and defend their rights in the host countries. In this context, he recalled the creation of the General Directorate of Migration, whose mission is to strengthen relations with the younger generations in particular. The Minister stressed the importance of giving fresh impetus to the National Council of Tunisians Abroad, an organisation that is now called upon to adopt an approach that best meets the expectations of the younger generations. Regarding the Ministry's relations with foreign diplomatic missions in Tunisia, the Minister explained that Tunisia is committed to the principle of reciprocity. Representatives of foreign countries and organisations must therefore inform the Ministry in advance and coordinate their meetings with various national ministries and structures. On another note, the Minister underlined the concern to strengthen Tunisia's position and influence both region ally and internationally, while respecting the principles of national sovereignty. He affirmed that Tunisia is working to extend and diversify its cooperation and partnership relations and to open up to promising new economies, particularly in Africa and Asia. In this regard, he affirmed that the Diplomatic Academy, which will be established in 2019, is capable of giving a new impetus to Tunisian diplomacy through agreements with similar institutions and research centres around the world, as well as through the training of foreign diplomats. He added that the institution has established contacts with 15 foreign academies and has trained 50 foreign affairs secretaries. The Foreign Minister stressed Tunisia's role in defending just causes, first and foremost the Palestinian cause, as well as its commitment to global solidarity, peace and stability.
