Adaklu Kodzobi Electoral Area in the Adaklu district Sunday experienced its first rainfall after nearly 14 weeks of drought in the area. The last rainfall in the area was on July 3, 2024, and the long spell of drought had been devastating to farmers in the area. Mr Seth Letsu a rice and maize farmer in the area told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that although he did not get a single grain of rice from his 10-acre farm due to the longevity of the drought, he was hopeful that the minor season would not fail them. He stated that the GHC8,000 he invested in the rice farm had gone down the drain but that would not discourage him from investing in his farming business. Mr Letsu encouraged his colleagues to start work immediately, adding that though the rainy months failed them he was hopeful that 'with God all things are possible'. Mr Dzamefe, the Volta Regional Director of Agriculture had earlier in an interview with the GNA advised farmers to make the most of the expected rains in September. He said though a larming, the Meteorological Agency declared a short lean season, therefore farmers should endeavour to seed early to avoid crop losses. Mr Dzamefe admitted the toll of the shift in the weather pattern, saying it had affected timeliness for land preparation and other pre-planting cultures. Source: Ghana News Agency
