Ammar takes part in Ministerial Consultations on Funding Arrangements for Responding to Loss and Damage

The issue of climate change and compensation for the damage incurred as a result was at the core of the participation of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Nabil Ammar in the Ministerial Consultations on Funding Arrangements for Responding to Loss and Damage, which had been agreed upon at the last Conference of the Parties (COP 27).

Speaking at the interactive dialogue on this subject, Nabil Ammar pointed out that Tunisia is one of the countries most affected by climate change, the repercussions of which are now threatening its water and food security and directly hampering its development efforts, according to a Foreign Ministry press release on Saturday.

He underlined on the occasion, that compensation is a crucial issue for developing countries in order to achieve climate justice in accordance with the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities, calling in this regard for the activation of the Loss and Damage Fund by speeding up the establishment of the procedural modalities for its entry into force as soon as possible and before the end of the next Conference of the Parties (COP 28).

The FM further called on donors to allocate sufficient funds to activate this mechanism and streamline access procedures in a way that is commensurate with the urgency of climate action and meets the urgent needs of affected countries by compensating them for the losses they have suffered, reiterating Tunisia's willingness to engage effectively in international efforts in this regard.
