United Democratic Patriots Party (PPDU) members and political activists rallied Tuesday outside the Tunis First Instance Court building to demand those involved in Chokri Belaid's assassination be prosecuted. This was in observance of the 11th anniversary of the murder of party SG Belaid, a lawyer and left wing activist who was gunned down on February 6, 2013, outside his house. The rally is taking place as a the defence committee of Belaid and Mohamed Brahmi is pleading the case Tuesday pending the hearing following multiple adjournments. The party said last February 1 SG and legal representative Zied Lakhdher had been heard by the investigating judge at the counter-terrorism judicial division as a complainant in proceedings in this case known as " the secret apparatus." The case was brought to light by the defence committee of martyrs Chokri Belaïd and Mohamed Brahmi. Scores of demonstrators chanted slogans incriminating the Troika (Ennahdha, Ettakatol, CPR), then in power, and accusing Ennahdha's Rache d Ghannouchi to be the mastermind of the slaughter of Chokri Belaid and Mohamed Brahmi (MP and general coordinator of the Popular Current (assassinated on July 25, 2013). Tunisia had endured a "black decade" marked by terrorism, political violence and hate speech as well as calls for violence against political opponents. Abdelmajid Belaid, brother of martyr Chokri Belaid, told TAP the murder of Chokri Belaid is a political assassination which had been designed to " silence a voice speaking out loud and clear against the destructive projects of political Islam in Tunisia."
