A committal order was issued on Thursday for Bechir Akremi, a dismissed judge and former prosecutor at the Tunis Court of First Instance, said his lawyer Hamadi ZaSfrani. In a statement to TAP news agency, ZaSfrani added this was the third detention order for Bechir Akremi, who has been in prison for a year. The third committal order is linked to a case brought against him by the Democratic Patriots' Unified Party "Watad" and the heirs of the martyr Mohamed Brahmi in connection with the assassination of the martyr Chokri Belaïd, he added. As a reminder, Bechir Akremi is the subject of a detention order issued on March 10, 2023 by the examining magistrate of the Judicial Counter-Terrorism Unit and a second issued on July 24, 2023 by the chief examining magistrate of the Tunis Court of First Instance. The cases of the assassinations of Chokri Belaïd and Mohamed Brahmi were referred to Bechir Akremi when he was an examining magistrate at the Tunis Court of First Instance.
