A cleaning campaign under the slogan "Clean Tunisian Cities" was organised on Saturday in the Wafa neighbourhood of Nabeul, as part of the cooperation between the local municipality and the Japanese Embassy in Tunisia. The campaign was attended by the Japanese ambassador to Tunisia, Takeshi Osuga, representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the United Nations Office in the presence of the governor of Nabeul and a number of children's and environmental associations. The Japanese ambassador told TAP that his participation in this campaign comes within the framework of the implementation of one of the major axes of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), the eighth session of which was recently hosted by Tunisia. It also comes within the framework of cooperation with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme through the Platform Project for Clean African Cities, which brings together 14 cities, including the city of Nabeul, he added. He noted that the city of Nabeul has been twinned for more than 19 years with the Japanese city of Seto, both known for the production of ceramics and pottery. The Japanese ambassador underlined the shared desire to give a new impetus to these relations, particularly as the 20th anniversary of the twinning is approaching. With regard to Tunisian-Japanese cooperation projects, he pointed out that there are many that are at the study or completion stage, particularly in the field of water, particularly in connection with the renovation of sewage treatment plants and the reuse of treated and disinfected water. In this context, he referred to the imminent launch of a major project in Gabes, currently in the study phase, to use the latest technologies for the treatment of purified water and its reuse in the industrial sector.
