The Encyclopaedia of Music and Musicology was created by a group of musicologists under the direction of university musicologist and Director of the Tunis Institute of Music Samir Becha. It is prefaced by French musicologist, semiologist and literary critic Jean Jacques Nattiez. This encyclopaedia covers the theoretical and methodological foundations of music and musicology in Tunisia in the early 21st century. It is an in-depth synthesis of the musical phenomenon and the sound worlds of various civilisations and eras from the ancient to the contemporary history. Becha said the numerous musicological studies published in the 20th and early 21st centuries now provide an opportunity to bring together musicologists of different nationalities around a number of questions that deserve to be studied with greater investment and perseverance.
