Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar, has called for the adoption of a mechanism and criteria to select the most qualified candidates for senior positions in the African Union Commission. The FM was speaking during his participation in the proceedings of the 44th session of the Executive Council of the African Union Commission, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on February 14 and 15. Minister Ammar stressed the need to adopt criteria in line with the reforms introduced regarding the composition of the Commission and the principles of equitable geographical distribution, gender parity and rotation among regions and countries. He stressed the importance of "transparency in the pre-selection process entrusted to a committee of African personalities in collaboration with an independent African consultancy firm," he was quoted as saying in a ministry statement.
