President of the Republic, Kais Saied, Tuesday, made a sudden visit to the Sugar Refinery of Beja, which has been shut down for over a week. Secretary General of the Trade Union of the Tunisian Sugar Company, Zidane Madani, told TAP that «the refinery has been struggling financially over the past few years.» The Head of State spoke to the company's employees who complained about the refinery's tough socio-economic situation which has been shut down for several times. The Tunisian sugar Company of Beja was created in 1961. It is one of the oldest industrial companies in the region and meets half of Tunisia's sugar needs.
