Tunis: Minister of Social Affairs, Kamel Madouri, reviewed the relations of cooperation between Tunisia and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and ways to strengthen them, during a meeting with IOM Director General , Amy A. Pope on Tuesday, as part of his participation in the 112th session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva. The Minister of Social Affairs stressed the need to adopt new strategies based on the migration and development equation and the importance of moving towards a more comprehensive approach based on fair and effective labour migration policies that protect the rights of migrant workers and their families and promote comprehensive development efforts. He called on the IOM to continue its work to turn migration into real opportunities that build a fair and balanced partnership between all countries. Madouri noted that Tunisia's commitment to its international obligations stems from its political principles and its firm belief in the need to protect the rights of migrants. He underlined the importance of promoting sustainable development in regions with high migrant flows through the economic empowerment of Tunisians in vulnerable situations, in particular by promoting vocational training and entrepreneurship within the framework of bilateral agreements on labour migration or within the policies and programmes adopted by regional groupings. For her part, the IOM Director General outlined the organisation's vision and objectives in finding solutions to meet the needs of migrants and expressed its readiness to continue working with Tunisia as a strategic partner in this field.
