A partnership agreement was signed on Friday between Minister of the Family, Women, Children and the Seniors, Amel Belhaj Moussa, and Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries, Abdelmonem Belati, on strengthening the economic empowerment of families and girls in the agricultural sector. The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between the two ministries to enhance the role of women in the agricultural sector and ensure food sovereignty, in addition to supporting agricultural projects and identifying areas of intervention by all parties to achieve the required objectives. The Minister for the Family said that increasing the number of women working in the agricultural sector would help to strengthen their rights in rural areas. The Tunisian state encourages women to participate in the creation of wealth and the culture of entrepreneurship, she added. She said that 40 per cent of the 5,000 projects submitted as part of the programme for the economic empowerment of women in the various gover norates for 2023 were agricultural projects. For his part, Minister of Agriculture pointed out that this agreement comes within the framework of activating the sectoral strategies developed by the Ministries of Women and Agriculture in the field of economic empowerment of women, girls and families in rural areas to create sources of income and contribute to achieving food security and development.
