Some graduate unemployed nurses and midwives in the Sunyani Municipality say they are worried about their inability to access the portal set up by the Ministry of Health (MoH) to facilitate their recruitment into formal employment. The government announced the recruitment of 15,000 health professionals, including the 2020 batch of nurses and midwives, as approved and verified by the Nurses and Midwifery Council. Accordingly, the Ministry of Health directed interested nurses and midwives to apply and upload their details through a designated portal between August 5 and August 23, 2024. During a round visit to some commercial internet facilities in the Sunyani Municipality, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) noticed several nurses and midwives going through the process of uploading their particulars. However, many of the applicants told the GNA they were worried, describing the process as 'frustrating' and unable to go through. At most of the intent cafés, the applicants had formed queues with some of them pregna nt and nursing mothers breastfeeding their babies. 'We are entirely disappointed because it is extremely difficult to go through the process and the MoH must do something if indeed the government wants to recruit us', one of the applicants only known as Ohenewaa told the GNA. Some of them also said they reported at the internet cafés as early as possible but were unable to go through the portal. Adobea, another applicant and a nurse, said, 'We are stranded here and some of us are forced to believe that the recruitment as announced is one of the political gimmicks.' Source: Ghana News Agency
