Tunis: President of the Free Destourian Party (PDL) Abir Moussi has gone on hunger strike as of Monday (July 29), "in protest against the violation of her right to run for president and the way she is being treated in prison, with no consideration for her health state," member of Moussi's defence team Ali Tayachi said. Moussi had on Monday appeared before the Summer Correctional Division of the Tunis Court of First Instance in the case brought against her by the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) under Decree-Law No. 54, he pointed out in a statement to party supporters outside the Tunis Court of First Instance, specifying that the court had not set a date for a forthcoming hearing and had reserved the case for examining the formal and procedural requests made. The defence committee team had asked the court to examine her condition and to take the necessary medical measures for her transfer, he added. The Judicial Division of the Tunis Court of First Instance decided on July 23 to issue a new detention warrant for Abir Moussi following the expiry of the warrant previously issued by the investigating judge in charge of the case.
