National Youth Strategy 2035: Hachani points to need to instil fresh hope in youth

Tunis: There is need to instil fresh hope in Tunisia's youth,bearers of the country's hopes and sources of its future solutions, Prime Minister Ahmed Hachani said. Launching on Tuesday the national youth strategy for 2035 at the Kasbah, Hachani pinpointed the need to invest in young people in order to turn challenges into real opportunities to achieve the expected leap forward. 'Given our modest natural resources, Tunisia's young people are the country's real wealth and a vital capital for building a better future,' he underlined. The National Youth Strategy had been devised as part of a participatory approach, involving all stakeholders, including youth, the Premier said, adding that it is the fruit of a year and a half of work whose main goals is to ensure a better future for Tunisia's youth. In this connection, he explained that Tunisia is full of talented and highly qualified young people, pointing out that some 6,500 Tunisian engineers have left Tunisia in recent years for Europe, in particular Germa ny and France. 'The cost of training Tunisian engineers in the various stages of education is roughly TND 400 million per year,' he indicated, underlining that since independence, Tunisia has focused on investment in human capital, with an emphasis on education and health. In this vein, the PM pointed out the major challenges facing the country and its youth, such as the creation of decent jobs and fight against unemployment, explaining that these challenges are an integral part of social justice. Besides, he reiterated the commitment of the government and all stakeholders to endeavour to ensure a better future for Tunisian youth, who have shown great potential, notably in the hundreds of start-ups created by young entrepreneurs in several important economic sectors. Tunisia's youth should be at the heart of all national strategies, and should be given every opportunity to succeed, prove their abilities and contribute to the country's economic development, the PM underscored. The launch ceremony of the N ational Youth Strategy 2035 was attended by Youth and Sport Minister Kamel Deguiche, several ministry officials and representatives of international organisations and authorities accredited to Tunisia.
