The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition, National Democratic Congress (NDC) have committed to ensure peace at this year's presidential and parliamentary elections in the Ahanta-West Constituency. The commitment was established in the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by the two parties during the second meeting organised by the Inter-party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) in collaboration with the Election Taskforce Committee.? The IPDC, which served as a platform for dialogue and collaboration among political parties, stakeholders, youth groups, religious and traditional leaders among others addressed electoral concerns promoting tolerance and mitigate political conflicts.? The Ahanta West Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Valantine Akposo entreated them to strictly abide by the public order act. The signing of the peace pact as a follow up on an earlier IPDC and Municipal Elections Taskforce Committee meeting came about as a result of some petty misunderstanding among some of the political parties. Mrs. Faustina Koranteng, Municipal Director of the NCCE, made the various political parties understand that every electoral offence attracted severe punishment by law. Source: Ghana News Agency
