Publication of bilingual comic book entitled ‘Water, a rare resource’

Tunis: Water, a rare resource" is a new collection of comic strips (2023-2024) in French and Arabic on the theme of climate change and water management. This collection of black and white and colour comic strips was produced by 18 Tunisian winners of a competition open to all, including professionals, organised by the European Union Delegation in Tunisia and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in 2023. The 106-page publication was produced as part of the 'Sawer Bel Azrak' (Draw with Blue) initiative. Participants in this initiative were given the opportunity to take part in cartoon workshops to raise public awareness of the shared responsibility to protect the rare and vital resource of water. Participants tackled a range of water-related themes through attractive titles such as 'L'enfant de la pluie', 'lutte pour la survie', 'une goutte d'eau', 'une vie', 'la Huppe, mon sauveur', 'Linda et l'enquête mouillée', 'dernière chance', 'stop gaspi', 'monde sans couleurs', 'Aqua-Girl'... The prize-giv ing ceremony for the winners of this competition took place on March 28 in the medina of Tunis and was attended by 100 people. Five thousand copies of the booklet were distributed free of charge with the daily newspaper 'La Presse' on Sunday, April 21. 'This collection of comic strips is, above all, tangible proof of the exuberant creativity of Tunisian youth," reads the editorial signed by Marcus Cornaro, the European Union's ambassador to Tunisia. 'All the original works published in this booklet were created specifically for this initiative by talented artists from different regions of Tunisia.' The Ambassador praised 'the characteristic commitment of Tunisian youth to a noble cause that is close to our hearts, the management of water resources'. He went on to say that 'the EU stands shoulder to shoulder with Tunisia in the fight against the effects of climate change'. Source: Agence Tunis Afrique Presse
