The Higher Education and Scientific Research Ministry, Monday, published statistics on the increase of women's participation in the fields of science, scientific research and technology. In a statement issued on the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, this year on the theme: "Women in scientific leadership: a new era for sustainability", the ministry said that the percentage of female students in the scientific field is 62%. 49.3% of university teachers in the scientific field are women. The percentage of women researchers in Tunisia represents 55% of the total number of people working on research projects in all sectors of the country, the same source said. The percentage of women researchers in research centers under the Higher Education and Scientific Research Ministry stands at 66%, a rate higher than that recorded by some advanced countries in the technological field. Tunisia stands out globally by ranking second in the percentage of women holding advanced degrees in the fields of scienc e, technology, engineering and mathematics. In fact, the rate of women graduating in these specialties is 58%. This remarkable performance contrasts with the global trend, where the number of men graduating in these fields exceeds that of women in 107% of countries, according to UNESCO data. Tunisia is thus seen as a model of success thanks to the promotion of education and women's emancipation in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. According to data from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, which covers 107 countries over the period 2015-2018, women represent 33.3% of researchers worldwide. Source: Agence Tunis Afrique Presse
