Tunisia will play host for first time to an Ordinary General Assembly of the Pan-African Farmers' Organisation (PAFO). This 6th session is slated to be held on October 23-28.
The event is organised by the PAFO, in collaboration with the Maghreb and North African Farmers' Union (UMNAGRI) and the National Union of Agricuture and Fisheries (French: UTAP), under the theme:" Promoting Resilient and Sustainable Food Systems for Farmers' prosperity," UTAP President Noureddine Ben Ayed Tuesday told a press conference at the seat of the organisation.
"This is an unmissable event for farmers and their organisation as well as for policy makers, technical and financial partners and experts in agriculture," he added.
A number of events will precede this 6th Ordionary General Assembly, UMNAGRI Secretary-General Rim Ferchichi said. They will see the participation of some sixty representatives of member networks and technical and financial partners, Tunisian authorities and African farmer organisations.
A rural women forum, a workshop on agroecology and meetings on themes including «Mapping of Farmer Organisations (FOs) and African Local Agricultural Products» and the Mid-Term Evaluation of PAFO's Strategy (2021-2025) are on the agenda.
This 6th Ordinary General Assembly, organisers said, is an opportunity to bring together PAFO 's governance bodies and discuss programmes, plans and activities implemented between two editions.
Members, farmers and organisations, will also take stock of PAFO's commitment during this meeting which will provide a platform for sharing kowledge as well as exchange among farmer organiations and with technical and financial partners.
A new president will be elected during the general assembly. A new line up of the Board of Directors will also be announced, the SG further said.
The pan-African organisation carries the voice of more than 80 million farmers on the African continent.members of about 73 national organisations, unions, confederations, cooperatives and associations in more than 48 countries in the African continent.
