UK willing to foster economic cooperation with Tunisia

Minister of Economy and Planning Samir Said on Thursday received UK Trade Commissioner (HMTC) to Africa John Humphrey, who is in Tunisia to partake in the 6th Financing Investment and Trade in Africa (FITA 2023).

Humphrey pointed out on the occasion, his country's willingness to foster the economic cooperation between the two countries in several fields through direct investment projects or three-way cooperation targeting neighbouring regional markets, notably African markets, reads a ministry press release.

He reiterated in this regard, the importance of Tunisia's geographic location, as a strategic gateway to the African Continent.

Said for his part, underscored the promising and high-tech fields such as renewables, biotechnology and ICT, etc., which offer potential for British investment projects in Tunisia.

The minister voiced Tunisia's keenness to make the most of the experience of UK companies and organisations working in the capacity building of SMEs and innovative start-ups.

Besides, Said affirmed the Tunisian government's willingness to forge fruitful economic partnerships with African countries and to endeavour to devise tailored mechanisms to encourage and help Tunisian companies to go internatioal.
